Las monedas Yehud
Résumé
corresponde a las pequeñas monedas de plata que comenzaron a acuñarse, en el s. IV a.C., en la
provincia persa Yehud. Estas monedas, que inicialmente imitaban a las monedas atenienses pero en
las que pronto se incluyeron motivos de la tradición judía, se caracterizaban por tener como leyenda
el nombre de la provincia, Yehud, en caracteres paleohebreos o arameos y por pertenecer al sistema
ponderal del shequel o la gerá. Durante la dominación macedonia de la provincia, se siguieron
acuñando este tipo de monedas, ahora con los nombres y títulos de algunos posibles gobernadores,
y en el sistema monetal del óbolo. Finalmente, tras la conquista de Palestina por parte de Ptolomeo
I, los tipos de las monedas Yehud pasaron a ser copias de las acuñaciones oficiales ptolemaicas,
hasta que hacia el 260 a.C., en tiempos de Ptolomeo II, se dejaron de acuñar.
